Music In Fredericton By Cardine Pearce and Sarah Hull
The City of Fredericton is known for its support in the music industry. Not only does Fredericton have numerous musical shows around the city, but a number of big acts have come from the capital. Some of these big acts have been Hot Toddy, Keith Hallet, and Age of Daze, who are opening for Nickelback, says Michael George, owner of Tony’s Music Box, located downtown. He says that Fredericton has also had some big events come such as the ECMA’s in February of this year, and the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival which happens every September. The Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival is a huge event for Fredericton. George says that it brings a wide variety of world class entertainment for six incredible days. Just this year, there were over 8000 admissions and 125+ performances. He also says that this event is economically powerful by supporting local businesses.
Another event that supported local businesses greatly was the ECMA's in February of 2008. It was the 20th anniversary of the ECMA's and Fredericton had the privilege of being able to host them for the first time. The ECMA's are a chance to show off what the Maritimes are all about. The capital city was hopping for the entire four days the event was going on. Every club, pub and bar was packed, as well as the streets with outdoor shows and of course, the Playhouse. It was great for the economy of Fredericton, and gave it the chance to show what it's all about. Some upcoming events one may want to consider attending are Sam Roberts Band with Matt Mays and El Torpedo at the Student Union Building, on the UNB Campus, on October 29th, 2008. Fredericton has a lot to offer both musically and visually. When you come to the city there is always something fun and exciting to do. Make sure you don't miss out!
